Terrified fisherman surrounded by saltwater crocodiles in dead of night as their eyes light up in dark

A fisherman found himself surrounded by saltwater crocodiles in the dead of night at a notoriously croc-infested waterway in Australia.

Arash Tayebbi was fishing in Shady Camp billabong in the Northern Territory at 1am last Saturday when the predators hemmed him in on both sides.

Eerie footage shows the eyes of the man-eaters glowing ominously as Arash aimed his flashlight back and forth on the banks of the billabong.

Despite crocs previously lunging at the 37-year-old at the same spot, Arash said he did not feel his life was at risk - but actually found the encounter "relaxing."

He said: "It was so dark I could only see them with the flashlight.

"There was loads of them on both sides of the barrage, up to 100.

"But I"m comfortable with that spot and nature generally relaxes me.

"If you love fishing you have to accept the risks, especially with how remote the Top End is."

Shady Camp is one of the most densely populated crocodile destinations in the world and it"s been the site of a number of fatal attacks involving fisherman.

In 2014, 62-year-old Bill Scott was taken from his boat by a 4.7m (15.3ft) crocodile while emptying a bucket over the side of his boat.

Arash said he has nearly fallen victim to crocs at the same spot - but he isn"t planning to stop wetting his line there anytime soon.

Fisherman Arash Tayebbi said he was relaxed

Arash said: "I"ve nearly been attacked by crocodiles in that spot three times before at night.

"Every time I kept a distance from the bank of three metres. As long as you don"t have kids or pets with you, and you keep a keen eye, that should be enough to get away.

"I"m used to that place and feel connected to all the animals there."
